The Historic Red Banks Primitive Baptist Church

A PCHS Property

In May of 2000, The Historic Red Banks Primitive Baptist Church was deeded to Pitt County Historical Society, Inc., by the five surviving members of the congregation: Alma Hardee Davis, Eula Lee Mills Fornes, Claude Alton Fornes, Clarice Wood Mills, and Howard Franklin Mills. Since then, the Society has replaced the tin roof with wooden shingles and replaced the exterior louvered shutters.

The building is currently used for Society meetings, our annual Dinner on the Grounds in June, weddings, concerts, and other special events.

Dr. Charles Ewen and his class from East Carolina University's Department of Anthropology came out and mapped the cemetery site in 2024. Please see the attached link to learn more about who rests in the cemetery and where on site they are located!
